The Events

"The Gold Events Calendar showcases all the major events that impact the gold price from Government reports (FOMC, NFP, IJC, ADP reports) to gold trading events (futures, options, GLD & COTs) to cultural holidays around the world to Indian auspicious & inauspicious days to buy gold. Also included are some gold metrics ie volatility, volumes, open interest plus the US Dollar Index vs the Euro & Copper vs Oil.
The concept behind the chart is to see the effects of past events & therefore to see events coming months & weeks ahead."

The top four windows show live intraday feeds for Gold/Silver/US DX/EUR/Crude Oil & EOD feeds for Gold Volatility (GVX)/Gold Futures (Volumes & Open Interest) & Copper.
Also shown in the top window is Gold's 40 year Seasonal Average

The bottom four windows are made up of events which are known to impact the gold price.
The first sector covers Holidays & auspicious & inauspicious days to buy gold.
The second sector covers Trading Events
The third sector covers Government Reports
The bottom sector covers Lunar Phases.

For the positive:
Ramadan, the big Muslim holiday, and gold-giving is very significant during Ramadan.

Pongal is an auspicious occasion for Tamilians and most buy gold to celebrate the occasion, as gold is the symbol of prosperity. Expect a 30% jump during the Pongal-Sankranti season in January, that will be witnessed across the country.

We have also seen sales grow on February 13, when the country celebrated the Shree Ganesh Jayanti festival, with high gold coins sales.

With the country celebrating Holi in March, the 'Festival of Colours' is an auspicious occasion for buying gold. According to Hindu mythology, buying gold on the occasion of Holi brings a lot of prosperity to the house.

April is also set to have more than three days considered as auspicious on which to buy gold. Gudi Padwa = Chaitra Shukla = Chaitra Navaratri, the Maharashtrian New Year in April, the very next day, it is Pushya Nakshatra, when one can launch new ventures and buy gold as a token. Again in April, there is Gurupushyamrit.

Akshaya Tritiya - The Golden Day of Eternal Success - is an important day in the Hindu calendar. It is the third day of the waxing moon in the month of Vaishaka (in May).

Guru Poornima is observed in the full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashad in July. The day is dedicated to Sage Vayasa who wrote the four Vedas and eighteen Puranas of the Hindu religion. The day is considered as significance to show gratitude to the "Gurus" (Teachers) and is regarded auspicious for buying gold.

The Varalakshmi Vratham, the festival of offering prayers to the symbol of prosperity and wealth, is being pegged as being incomplete without a touch of gold. Varalakshmi Vratam is one of the eight most prominent festivals of prosperity and well-being & in August.

Raksha Bandhan is a festival in Hindu religion which is celebrated between brothers and their sisters and cousins. The sisters pray for the good health and well being of their brothers and the brothers in return give gifts. The day is also known as Rakhi Poornima & is in August.

Onam, a 10 day spring festival celebrated with much gusto in South India, especially Kerala. Much of the celebration during this time revolves around the purchase of gold and silver.

Teej, the festival of Hindu women, is in the start of September, when gold trading picks up.

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on the birthday of Lord Ganesh (Ganesha), the god of wisdom and prosperity on the fourth day of the moons bright fortnight, or period from new moon in the lunar month of Bhadrapada. The celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi continue for five, seven, or ten days & worshippers buy idols or jewellery in gold to bedeck their favourite God in Sept.

Dussehra Festival falls on the tenth day after Navratri, the festival in honour of the Mother ... For this reason it is also called 'Sonpatta' or the tree with leaves of gold.

Auspicious gold-buying day of Dhanteras.

Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped on the day and buying gold is considered to bring good luck, wealth and prosperity. According to Hindu tradition people would put small oil lamps called "Diya" outside their homes on Diwali and hope goddess Lakshmi will come to bless them.

Diwali - the festival of lights - the largest gift-giving and shopping festival in India and most popular for gold purchases - when people buy gold for auspicious reasons in October.

The Chhath festival is an ancient Hindu festival dedicated to Surya, the Sun God. The Chhath Puja (prayer) is performed on the bank of the river in order to thank the Sun God for sustaining life on earth and to request the granting of certain wishes.

Chhath Puja is a 4-day festival where devotees fast without water for more than 24 hours and worship the Sun. There are many rituals that are followed in these four days, which fall on the sixth day after Diwali, notable amongst them being the buying of gold as prayers are offered.

Talk about Pushya Nakshatra and something that immediately comes to the mind is gold. The significance of the day is the favorable alignment of astrological stars, which is considered special for beginning new ventures and purchases. When Pushya Nakshatra falls on a Thursday it is considered even more auspicious and it is referred as Guru Pushya Nakshatra.

Pushya Nakshatra occurs several times in a year in the Hindu calendar. Most people opt for Gurupushya Nakshatra day and ignore the normal days.

According to Hindu astrological beliefs the favorable alignment of the stars on this Pushya Nakshatra day results in prosperity, success and happiness. Therefore it is considered to be the most auspicious day in a year to make investments and purchases.

Thanks to the effective campaign conducted by Jewellery shops, Pushya Nakshatra day for many means the right day in the Hindu calendar to buy gold ornaments. In India, gold is still considered to be an ideal investment and many people make it a point to purchase gold, gems and jewelry on this day.

It is considered auspicious to buy valuables like gold on occasions like Dhanteras, Diwali and Akshay Tritiya in India.

March has proved fruitful for jewellers, with most expecting the trend to continue until June.
Demand is also set to re-emerge in August and in the October to December festival period.

Almost 70% of gold jewellery is sold in India during the wedding and festival season.
India's wedding season runs from late September to December.

And for the negative:
What could also affect purchases in December and January is the inauspicious period of 'Khar Mass' which is a month in the Hindu calendar from December 16 to January 14 when most people tend not to start any new ventures or purchase gold. Demand could be down all this month.

An inauspicious phase -- Shradh -- a period for paying homage to ancestors, is from Oct. 1 to Oct. 16.

Chaturmas - is a holy period of four months (July to October), Indians weddings are not held hence low gold demand.
